Author Guidelines

Guidelines for authors

The journal publishes relevant original and unpublished articles, review articles, and scientific essays from the last three years on topics in Social Sciences connected to broader debates. These submissions should not be published elsewhere or under consideration by other journals; otherwise, they will be excluded. Articles focusing on local and specific issues disconnected from broader realities, as well as descriptive articles, will not be accepted. Researchers must declare any potential conflicts of interest of an economic or academic nature to ensure research transparency. In a separate letter, the first author/corresponding author must indicate each author's contribution.

Submission of papers

Articles can be written in Spanish, Portuguese, or English, and must be submitted in a single paragraph and in Word format through the journal's OJS platform available at: www.comunicacionunap.com. To ensure anonymity and transparency, the author must submit two files: one file with the name of the author(s), institutional affiliation, email, and ORCID; the other file should contain the completely anonymous article text.

The first page should include the title in Spanish and English (only the first letters of important words must be capitalized) maximum 15 words, the abstract and keywords in Spanish and English.

The article must have 5 to 7 thousand words in a single column. Bibliographic references shall be considered only those which have been cited in the body of the article.

The admitted articles are submitted to the evaluation process of anonymous peers, who evaluate considering the international quality standards and criteria for publication. The final results of the peer evaluation can be the following: • Approved for publication without changes • Approved for publication with minor changes • Approved for publication with major changes • Rejected work

The paper must be written considering in each case the following elements:

Quantitative research

The abstract, keywords, Abstract, Key words, introduction, theoretical framework, research methods and techniques, data analysis and discussion, conclusions. Illustrations and tables must be inserted into the body of the work. References.

Abstract

It presents the general idea of the subject, objective, research methods, results and conclusions, written objectively and concisely (in a single paragraph with an average of 200 words).

Keywords

Set of three to five words that represents the content of the work.

Introduction

The introduction must include the following information: the problem, background, the theory explaining the phenomenon, the novelty it offers, and justification (the scientific gap it will fill), as well as the study's objective, all within two pages. In the body of the article, the sources consulted must come from high-impact journals published in the last 5 years.

Theoretical framework 

Theory or theories explaining the phenomenon.

Methodology

Description of the procedure, methods and techniques used in data collection and analysis: description of the procedure, methods and techniques used in data collection and analysis.

Results

Presentation of research results and their respective interpretation, up to 7 tables or graphs. When presenting result graphs, it is necessary to attach files of the tables and the database.

Discussion

Contrast of results with previous studies and theories, as well as the author's reflection. Implications, applicability, and limitations of the study. When presenting result graphs, it is necessary to attach files of the tables and the database. The final paragraphs should indicate the applicability/implications and limitations of the study.

Conclusions

It presents the inferences and teachings in relation to the research topic and proposed objectives in order to allow future research.

Qualitative research

The abstract, keywords, Introduction (description of the problem, Background, conceptual theoretical/theory framework,  objective), methodology, result and interpretation (with authors and reflexivity), conclusions.  References. The illustrations must be inserted into the body of the work.

Reviews papers: it must analyze, systematize and integrate the results of published research on social science topics published by the journal, in order to account for the advances and trends of development (at least 30 authors reviewed). This type of research is characterized by a careful and extensive literature review.

Making cites in the text

Short cites: literal transcription of the text, with less than 40 words. It must be incorporated into the paragraph in quotation marks or it can be paraphrased. Direct quote example:

Porter (1986) "The competitive strategy is a combination of the aims (goals) the company seeks and the means (policies) by which it seeks to get there” (p.14).

Two authors

 Rodríguez and Sánchez (2013) or (Rodríguez and Sánchez, 2013)

Three or more authors

Reference of groups of similar authors:

In case two references are identical as summary, cite the surname of the authors to differentiate the two references. Example: Pride (1992) and Kotler (2006) or (Pride,1992 & Kotler, 2006)

Other important aspects

Illustrations: the figures, designs, diagrams, organigrams, photographs, graphs, maps, etc. must be inserted as close as possible to where it is quoted. They are identified by an enumerated lower legend.

Tables: presents qualitative information, usually textual, arranged in lines or columns (maximum 7 tables).

Tables: presents quantitative or numerical information (maximum 7 tables).

Upper legend: lists the tables (quantitative information). Location above the table. Font size 11, central and bold alignment.

Lower caption: Lists figures, graphs, images, etc., which appears below the illustration. Font size 11, bold.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
